Florida was granted with fertile soils
and a plenty of lakes and rivers that made this sunshine state a
traditionally agricultural region. For many years these abundant
natural recourses were exploited by population for their usefulness.
Now, in the era of conservation, people recognized how limited these
recourses are and seek the ways to preserve and restore them.
The main goals of this project are:
-
to explore issues of the water quality
degrading as a consequence of traditional and not sustainable
methods used in agricultural practices, and
-
to develop and demonstrate new
Water Quality Best Management Practices For Beef Cattle Ranching
that will not adversely impact the environment and help to protect
and enhance Florida's sensitive natural resources and restore the
state's water quality, while sustaining economically viable and
compatible agricultural industry.
This
mission is accomplished by conducting relevant research and
educational programs in the biological, environmental and
agro-economical sciences focused in water quality and BMP methods
development.
Another part of this project is to
provide research-based knowledge and educational programs that
enable farmers and other people to make practical decisions to
improve their quality of life.
This project comprises the following
stages:
-
Collecting data
from fields using the flumes;
-
Transmitting
data through telemetry devices and database
maintaining;
-
Analyzing data,
defining nitrogen and phosphorus
contamination;
-
Developing
decisions and solutions for the water issues
and problems.
