H7. Construction Design, GIS and Engineering Support

Training for Engineering, Architecture and GIS students.

SDS/III, in cooperation with other non-profit organization, has been designing a list of construction improvements in the LaBelle Nature Park and along the Caloosahatchee river.

Creating new design plans, drawings and GIS maps for various related technical projects, (e.g. for designing Hendry County Environmental Education Center, for terracing river banks land, etc.) and collecting GPS field data and creating associated databases are main components of this training project.

    List of main tasks:

  • Research main designing methodology procedures used in related projects;
  • Get familiar with local, state and federal legislation to understand required regulations for creating your designs;
  • Conduct field trips to collect GPS data and evaluate selected sites;
  • Assist in site evaluation, create comprehensive database of photos and maps;
  • Incorporate collected data into associated databases;
  • Evaluate with GIS software packages designed plans and maps;
  • Review your plans with professional architects and decision makers;
  • According to the obtained feedback, improve your plans;
  • Assist with construction of approved designs.
