Table 2. Data collection procedures.
Data Annotation | All charts, tapes, and data verification sheets shall be annotated to District specifications utilizing forms/stamped information provided by the District.
Manual Measurement | Distance-to-water (DTW) readings from the reference mark on the platform will be taken at all stage recorders when the recording medium is removed or data is collected, and noted on the chart/form in the appropriate place.
Recorder Adjustment | If the recording medium indicates a difference of more than 0.02 foot from the stage computed from the DTW, the recorder shall be adjusted before starting the next record and an appropriate notation made on the chart/form just removed. Any adjustments require a written statement of probable cause of the difference. If the problem cannot be corrected, or cause is unknown, a trouble report will be submitted.
Time Verification | Watch time and recorder clock time is required on both on and off times for the period of record. Watch times are to be accurate to the nearest minute and recorder time to the nearest 10 minutes in case of chart recorders and 2 minutes in the case of digital or electronic recorders. All electronic equipment will remain on EST.
Clock Replacement | Discrepancies in watch time and recorder time more than one hour (not due to daylight savings time), not justified by some apparent explanation, require replacement of the clock mechanism at mechanically recorded stations.
Supplemental Stage | All supplemental stage readings available at the site are required at both on and off time. These include the readings on perforated tape and staff gage.
Trip Summary | A trip visitation summary will be kept which shall list the stations and any special maintenance performed above and beyond normal monthly maintenance.
