Internship for Environmental, Journalism, or Political Science Students

As a community service, Southern DataStream works with non-profit organizations to influence SW Florida public policy in order to bring about some positive changes in the environmental issues of this agricultural region and in particular in the issue of degrading water quality.

We are seeking highly motivated students ready for challenges, and willing to take hand in implementing our ambitious plans and improvements. The students will have a unique opportunity to assist in all stages of this and similar projects and therefore to enhance their knowledge in environmental issues, lobbying, law and land usage policy and many others.

What will I achieve?
If you work hard, you will get a real working experience opening the door to the career you want and equipping you to succeed in it. In particular you will acquire:

• Excellent leading skills, as well-qualified leaders are very important to all environmental organizations;
• Communicating skills, which very often are a must, as advocates work with a great number of people: scientists, politicians, citizens and others;
• Skills in sharing knowledge and ideas by delivering presentations, participating in public meetings, preparing reports and other documents;
• Experience in organizing and running a group of advocates; this includes fundraising, interacting with the media, communicating with public, and many other skills;
• An understanding of the commercial and social factors that affect implementation of environmental projects.
