B4. Web-based Data Delivery Systems

Training for Computer Science or Engineering students.

We maintain network of remote field data collection stations around southwest Florida. Data from these stations get transferred to our office server by telemetry systems and then integrated to online databases. The same data gets also collected by interns, who visit the field sites on regular basis for fixing the instrumentation and telemetry bugs and downloading data from CR dataloggers to PDAs and laptops for backup and verification purposes. This assignment offers training in developing web-based data delivery systems that are fed by low-cost telemtry system and scripting associated databases and websites.

    List of main tasks:

  • Study associated hardware to understand the telemetry feeding systems;
  • Study associated software and programming languages (PC 208W, FTP applications, PHP, MySQL, Apache, Campbell Scientific DataLogger programming language etc.) to understand the telemetry processing systems;
  • Design associated online databases structure fed by the telemetry;
  • Develop scripts powering the databases systems websites and users interfaces;
  • Test and debug newly developed websites;
  • Develop intelligent systems, designated to automatically notify about actual situation of the telemetry system;
  • Check data input and output in online databases to detect any malfunctions.
