B1. Design and Development of an Automatic Water Sampler

Internship for Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering students

Southern DataStream has developed a low-cost automatic water sampler that includes electronic, hydraulic and mechanical components. This internship project involves assistance in designing and assembling a composite water sampler, using off-the-shelf components (relays, pumps, solenoid valves etc.) and provides an excellent opportunity for practical application of students’ skills and ideas.

We are seeking students and recent graduates prepared for a challenge in developing creative solutions that will contribute to improvements of the current water sampler model and will be very helpful for the needs of scientists as well as local community.

List of tasks:

  • Maintain field equipment in working condition;
  • Document all preventative maintenance and repairs;
  • Suggest improvements in water sampler designs;
  • Test and apply newly developed improvements;
  • Perform field measurement tests according to specified methodology;
  • Collect water samples during field trips;
  • Process collected water samples in a laboratory;
  • Analyze received lab results;
  • Document all activities in field logs or field data sheets;
