A4. BMP Development in Agricultural Engineering

Training for Environmental Science, Agriculture, Hydrology, Biotechnology, or Engineering students.

Overview: Protection and evaluation of plant, soil, and water phosphorus (P) implications requires active involvement and united actions of wide range of scientists and individuals starting their career in Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Hydrology, Biotechnology, and Engineering. The program has addressed various aspects of ecology and environmental impact of domestic wastewater residuals (bio-solids), and water treatment residuals to south-central Florida.

Current training position gives students and young professionals the opportunity to deepen their skills and learn how, at SDS they could:

  • Gain exposure to professional agricultural environment;
  • Receive training on sampling and measurement of waste products, soils, surface and ground waters;
  • Build the monitoring site and setting up the instrumentation required;
  • Manage vegetation for phosphorus (P) accumulation and transport indicators;
  • Provide intensive analysis of P concentrations and forms in surface soils;
  • Assemble results and formulate recommendations on appropriate application rates of the tested waste materials.

Who we are looking for?
To be eligible for our Training Program, you need to have strong analytical skills, basic experience or knowledge in this field and a real passion for what you do. We seek a trainee whose individual goals linked closely with organization goals.

What we offer?

  • Three to six months of training in center of LaBelle, a small country town in south Florida.
  • Training is Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM with one hour lunch break.
  • Successfully completed our training program interns are assisted in pursuing a job placement in other organizations.

When you can apply for dual-supported participation?
SDS offers a limited number of dual-supported training positions for a period of at least 5 months - typically from late August/early September 2007 to mid of April/early May 2008.
